Health Advocates’ Ruby Ball – A Sparkling Success!
On Thursday, October 9, Health Advocates for Older People hosted its Ruby Ball at the Union League Club — a sold-out celebration that brought together nearly 200 guests in support of Health Advocates’ mission to help older New Yorkers age healthily, independently, and with dignity in their homes and communities.
The evening shimmered with fine dining, lively music by the Alex Donner Orchestra, and heartfelt recognition, uniting supporters, community leaders, and advocates who share a commitment to ensuring a vibrant future for older adults.
A hallmark of Health Advocates’ events is their intergenerational spirit, and this year’s Ruby Ball was no exception. The celebration engaged long-standing community partners, program participants, and a dynamic group of young professionals — a true reflection of the organization’s inclusive and community-centered mission.
Behind the evening’s success was the dedicated Gala Committee, co-chaired by Lori Shepherd and Betty McKinley, along with the Board of Directors, led by President Gary Heinze, and Health Advocates’ devoted staff. From ruby-red roses on each table to charming ruby cookie party favors, every detail shone through. A new addition this year was the Junior Committee, whose energy and enthusiasm added an exciting new dimension to the event.
The highlight of the night was the presentation of three New York Treasure Awards to distinguished community leaders who have made lasting contributions to the city:

Assemblymember Rebecca Seawright also attended the event with a special proclamation for Health Advocates congratulating the organization’s 40 years of service to older New Yorkers.
“Each of our honorees represents the very best of New York City’s spirit of service, leadership, and compassion,” said Gary Heinze, President of the Board of Directors. “The Ruby Ball is not only a celebration of their accomplishments, but also a reminder of the vital role Health Advocates plays in supporting older adults across our city.”
The Ruby Ball truly lived up to its name — a brilliant evening of generosity, community, and celebration — ensuring that Health Advocates can continue to help older New Yorkers stay healthy, engaged, and connected for years to come.
