Celebrating Our Volunteers!

On May 15, 2026, Health Advocates was delighted to host a Volunteer Appreciation Lunch honoring the dedicated individuals who generously give their time, on an ongoing basis, to support our work. Seventeen volunteers joined staff for an afternoon of good food, warm conversation, and gratitude for all they do throughout the year. As a small organization, Health Advocates relies on volunteers, whose contributions extend our capacity to serve older New Yorkers. Volunteers support cultural outings, classes, and community events; make birthday calls to community members; assist with mailings, data entry, and office projects; and help create a welcoming and connected community for the people we serve.

One especially memorable part of the afternoon was hearing volunteers share stories about their earliest volunteer experiences. Interestingly, many reflected on volunteering at hospitals when they were younger, highlighting a longstanding spirit of compassion and service that continues today.

We are grateful to our volunteers for their time, kindness, and commitment to Health Advocates and the older adults in our community. Their support makes so much of our work possible. Health Advocates also acknowledges the generous support of the NYC Civic Impact Funding Initiative and The Fan Fox & Leslie R. Samuels Foundation, whose support helps make our volunteer program possible.
